In contracting and comparing the Terrorist Attacks of 9/11 and the Cuban Missile Crisis we first need to take into account that these both played out in very different political environments.
During the time of the Cuban Missile Crisis, the United States and the Soviet Union were in the midst of political turmoil between the two superpowers, furthermore this made the intelligence gathering of regular importance. With this type of intelligence gathering and analyzing it gave the United States the ability to mitigate its potential risks and preparing for an ultimate worst case scenario. This is what made the intelligence gather more urgent and promptly completed. Nevertheless. With the Terrorist Attacks of 9/11 there was no outspoken enemy or a pre-expected outcome, everything was handled Post 9/11, therefore making the investigations complex of intelligence gathering
In further review, the Cuban Missile Crisis had an unfortunate casualty, one young man a 35 year old reconnaissance pilot by the name of Major Rudolph Anderson, who was shot down and killed over Cuba by a Soviet Unit stationed there. With regards to 9/11 there were 2,996 people that lost their lives, more than 6000 were injured and there was approximately 10 billion dollars in infrastructure damage.
The Cuban Missile Crisis ended with a standoff and negotiation between the United States and the Soviet Union, with the removal of Soviet missiles from Cuba and the removal of US missiles from Turkey and ultimately starting nuclear weapons treaties, all of which occurred in “13 days”.
