Thunder and Prey Essay

These two actions packed stories have similarities and differences. Both stories are action packed because they create a lot of suspense throughout the stories. The stories are “A Sound of Thunder” and “Being Prey”. These stories have similarities such as mutual theme. They also have differences such as a different setting and conflict. The stories are similar and different in many ways, they are explained in the paragraphs below.
The setting in both stories are dangerous. Both stories also have dangerous predators. Both of the dangerous predators are reptiles. Although they are different types of reptiles, in “Being Prey’ the predator is a crocodile. In “A Sound of Thunder” the predator is a T-Rex. The stories also take place in different time periods. “Being Prey” takes place in the present Australia. In “A Sound of Thunder” the future, 2055, and prehistoric times. “The rain and wind grew more severe, and several times I pulled over to tip the canoe,” this shows the setting in “Being Prey” is dangerous. In both stories the main characters were warned about something and they did it anyway. In “A Sound of Thunder” Travis tells Eckels “…Stay on the path, Stay on the path!” Although, Eckels let his emotions get to him and he runs off. In “Being Prey” Val is told “You can play about on the back waters, but don’t go onto the main river channel.” Val ends up going to the main river channel. She gets attacked by a crocodile and she has to fight for her life. As for Eckel’s actions consequence, he ran off the path and killed a butterfly which cause a chain of events leading up to the future. The chain of events leading up to the future changed the future.
