During the era of Jim Crow in the South, de facto segregation, and ubiquitous discrimination no matter where they went, African American progressives sought change and reform that would provide them with the equality they deserved. Two prominent figures in the African American progressive movement were Booker T. Washington and W.E.B Du Bois.
