During the era of Jim Crow in the South, de facto segregation, and ubiquitous discrimination no matter where they went, African American progressives sought change and reform that would provide them with the equality they deserved. Two prominent figures in the African American progressive movement were Booker T. Washington and W.E.B Du Bois. While they agreed on some ways African Americans can improve their social conditions, for the most part they had different opinions and solutions towards ending the injustices of the era.
