Jean Baptiste Colbert was the financial minister of France while it was under the leadership of Louis XIV. In this position he promoted the ideas of mercantilism. Colbert wanted to reach economic prosperity by creating trade where exports were always higher than imports and the colonies were used for their raw materials.
