Using the sources in Chapter 3 I will compare and contrast the different philosophies of the Confucianism, Daoism, and Legalisms I will also explore how confucianism ideology gave insight on the Chinese culture. I will use multiple sources including; “Social Connections”, Eminence in Learning: The Legalist School, and The Analects: The Confucian School to distinctly show what each philosophies believes. Confucianism Daoism and Legalism all have very different views but they all relate back to similar themes of society, hierarchy, kinship and laws and morals.
Confucius thoughts and ideas were considered to be the most important and influential. The Earth and Its Peoples defines confuciasm as, “Confucian teachings emphasized benevolence, avoidance of violence, justice, rationalism, loyalty and dignity” (Bulliet, Crossley, Headrick, Hirsh, Johnson, Northrup 61). Daoism were more accepting of the way the world was. They were more passive and allowed for things to happen as they did, the ideas also believed in being one with nature. Daoism was more individualistic and brought about new thought to china. “It offered an alternative to the Confucian emphasis on hierarchy and duty and to the Legalist’ approval of force” (63). The Daoist were more laid back in ways and just felt things should be constructed naturally, they were very different than Confucianism and Legalist. In the story of social connections finds fault in the harm that incompetent officials can do. “The policeman arranged for a certain bandit to commit a crime and frame farmer Fei for it.
