Legalism is the most effective school of thought from the ancient Chinese society. Legalism is a philosophy that teaches that civil disputes and harmony in society should be dealt with laws, which is how it got its name. Believers in this philosophy conclude that an organized and strong government was the answer to keeping an orderly civilization. In addition, this philosophy stressed punishments to maintain order in the society and they happened to punish more than reward. It was first introduced by Hanfeizi and Li Si in China and gained favor with a prince of the rising Qi dynasty, which replaced the Zhou dynasty. The Legalists thought that the ideas and actions if thinkers should be controlled by the government. There are many reasons why Legalism is the most proficient way of governing and sustaining a well ordered civilization. First, Legalism has been proven functional in a few instances of history. Some people may argue that Legalism is a very harsh and negative belief system; however it has proven very effective when it is used. Confucianism was unsuccessful because it was considered to have a very secular look on the government. In contrast, Legalism was non religious so it could not have secularist ways in the government. Legalism is better than Daoism because Daoism wanted to understand the world and argue about right and wrong. When it came to running an orderly society, Daoists wanted to have relationships with living things, and Legalists wanted to have a government to control the society. In the end, government and law running the society proved more effective in the end because China's government did really well and is still doing really well.
