In Graeme Simsion’s romance novel, The Rosie Project, the two main characters, Don Tillman and Rosie Jarman are depicted as contrasting and opposing in personality. In the opening chapters of the novel Don Tillman is portrayed as a logical and concentrated individual, while Rosie Jarman is seen to be a stunning but unorganised woman. Throughout the novel, both characters develop and change; Don becomes more in touch with his emotions, while Rosie is adapting her language to Don’s. In the final chapter of the novel, both characters realise that they are meant for each other so they wed and live together in New York. As these characters change through the novel, Simsion slowly manipulates their personalities from juxtaposing to almost identical.
