The time period no matter what doesn’t change the fact that there is a pursuit of happiness going on behind the thoughts of achieving dreams. Starting with The Great Gatsby during the time period then which was during the 1920’s, although the narrator is Nick Carraway the main character is Jay Gatsby who is consumed with his desire to chase after a girl with the name Daisy Buchanan. Gatsby’s pursuit is driven to a point where he would even take the crime of killing Myrtle Wilson, “‘Was Daisy driving?’ ‘Yes,’ he said after a moment, ‘but of course I’ll say I was.’”(Fitzgerald 154) Even with the outcome of taking the hit for Daisy would mean that Gatsby would have to spend his time in prison he still wasn’t even phased by the fact he would have to face harsh consequences because Gatsby is dedicated to giving Daisy a life even if it means he loses his. Such as a rich neighborhood and a poor neighborhood they might be different in social status but in the end both neighborhoods want both more money and more love even if they are smothered with one rather than another. In Great Gatsby the environment is the less rich but still somewhat rich neighborhood of West Egg.
