This essay discusses the colonies of the Jamestown and Plymouth Plantation. On December 1606 the journey to Virginia began and in 1607, 104 men landed in North America and they started a settlement and on May 13 they arrived in a place in which they named Jamestown, Virginia named after King James the first. In 1620 William Bradford helped organize a journey on the Mayflower and it brought 100 people half which were his pilgrims to the “new world” where they discovered many different things and people that changed the world forever.
In Jamestown, there were a lot of advantages for the people. There was plenty of water for the ships to sail in, good soil for plantation, a good climate which would help the people and plants, it was a help against the spanish if they chose to attack and it wasn’t inhabited by the natives. The people of Jamestown chose to Virginia because they wanted a better economy and they wanted to expand English trade. By June 15 they completed a fort which was to defend themselves against the Powhatan indians because the English were living on their land. The English and the Powhatan indians had already met and made relations. On June 22, captain Newport left for England to get more supplies for the people. After the captain had left, the deadly diseases started.

What motivated the pilgrims to move was religion. They felt as if they were losing their English heritage. He was the Plymouth colony governor for more than thirty years. As governor of the Plymouth Colony Settlement, he wanted the best for his people. He chose to take his pilgrims to a better place. In 1621 the pilgrims arrived at what became Plymouth, Massachusetts. Plymouth had advantages too like Jamestown. Plymouth offered anchorage and a harbor. Jamestown had good weather ,but Plymouth had cold weather and thin soil that didn’t work for crops. The pilgrims then turned to fishing, shipbuilding and trade
