-During the Lewis and Clark expedition the two explorers hired a French Canadian to join their expedition, Toussaint Charbonneau who brought his Shosonean bride, Sacajawea, and their son with him. Although, Lewis and Clark were reluctant to have a woman and papoose on the rugged journey, Sacajawea’s aid proved to be invaluable to the expedition.
