“Lady with the Pet Dog” As read in both stories of “Lady with the Pet Dog” by Oates and Chekhov's, the plot, actions, and feelings of the characters are similar to each other because they are both written to express the ideals that cheating on a spouse is ok. Both stories are understood to be tragedies because of the way the characters have openly described their lives at home with their loved ones and the huge step taken in defiance of their spouses. From what can be seen both stories deal with the same plot and characters the only difference being the setting in which each takes place.

The other story of “ Lady with the Pet Dog” by Oates also goes on the same bases as the one written by Chekhov except this one is written in today’s time. There is a man and a woman with a dog that has started talking to each other. Over a period of time they end up falling in love with each other and having to split only to have one of them go to the others home town and ruin whatever little piece of calm they had after cheating on there spouse.
The similarities of these stories are easily seen as two couples that are unhappy with the way there lives have turned out with the people they’ve married and have turned to seeing and sleeping with other people. Both of the protagonist cheated on their spouses and left each other

Alejo only to have them come crawling back to their lovers hometown and bother them when they were just getting settled back into the routine with their spouses. The only thing that is actually seen throughout this story is the way it affected both sides, the man and the woman, and how they each dealt with the consequences.
In ‘Lady with the Pet Dog” by Chekhov and Oates the plot and characters are the same. There is a man and woman who meet each other and cheat on their spouses together, separate from each other, and have the males go to the woman’s hometown to tell them how they haven’t been able to function without them. There are also differences like the point of views from each story and the time era that each are respectively written in other then that both stories are written to represent the same thing, a tragic story of betrayal and that cheating is ok if you're not
