Modern music is often categorized by sound and beat; however, the lyrics are sometimes based on similar experiences. Some consider country music polar opposite to rap music, but are they really? Each genre discusses similar experiences such as hanging out with friends, driving fancy cars and unfortunately experimenting with drugs/alcohol. Ask any listener of either genre and the general census is that these two are related in no way. Country music and rap music on sound standpoint are different with quite similar lyrical messages, but due to social barriers within our society the general census is that they are polar opposites entirely.

Different groups with different backgrounds were popping up all over the United States. Several of these groups include Run DMC, Public Enemy, Ice T, NWA and many others. Drug references and criminal activity references were common in some of these groups. However, they remained alike, in the fact that in some country songs they referred back to love, work and life in some way or another. The only difference is that these experiences mentioned in rap music, were told through a city dweller perspective.
Whether someone is country music artist or rap music artist, we as people experience similar situations in life. These musicians are essentially presenting their messages through the music they create centered around the lyrics of their music. Whether someone is from the country or the city, everyone faces similar struggles regarding life, work and love. Too often, people consider themselves different even though we have more in common than we think. While country music and rap music may sound different, the lyrical messages are quite similar; however, people are often too blind to the
