The election of 2000, between George W. Bush and Al Gore was not legitimate for a multitude of reasons. For most elections, the presidency would go to whoever won Florida, but for this election it was much easier said than done. At the beginning of the election Florida was for Al Gore, but quickly after leans Bush. Many believed this was the end of the election, but thousands of voters believed they had voted incorrectly and that the machines did not count correctly. With this being said, Bush gained 3,000 votes while Al Gore lost thousands. After a machine recount is admitted, Bush is found to lead only by 1,784 votes which triggers an automatic machine recount. Because of dimpled ballots and chads, there are over 175,000 uncalled for votes
