American historians state that Spanish colonies had more success than English colonies. Their settlement in the New World was economically favored in their beginnings due of the wealth of precious metal the Spaniards found. However, their promisingly success in America did not prevail unlike the English colonies. Therefore, their differences of conquest affected their failures or successes while establishing their empires.

The main purpose of the Spaniards was looting gold and other riches in the prosperous land discovered by Christopher Columbus.
