Through all conflict and during every war there will be people who are in the conflict and those who are against it. The War of 1812 was caused by the grievances that the United States had towards Great Britian and the restrictions that were being placed on the U.S by Britain and the United States therefore wanted to show power over Britain. The Spanish American War was caused by an explosion of the battleship and by the United States support to the Cubans and Filipinos against Spain. Though the motives of the start of the Spanish American War greatly differed from those of the War of 1812 they had similarities within these differences. In the periods leading up to the War of 1812 and the Spanish American War the attitudes of the Americans were both for and against the start of conflict both politically and socially. Politically the War of 1812 and the Spanish American War were quite different. The war of 1812 was provoked by Great Britian placing restrictions on trade between the United States and France, and also by capturing U.S sailors to force to work for the Royal Navy. Another cause was the Embargo Act of 1807 which prohibited Americans from trading in all foreign parts of the world while they were under the power of Great Britian. To free themselves from Great Britian, the Americans wanted to fight for their freedom and become and independent country.
