Many people compare the tragic death of Trayvon Martin to the treacherous murder of Emmett Till. Each of these incidents have similar aspects, such as their young ages at the time of their murder, discrimination against their race, and how their mothers reacted after their deaths. Each of these young mean lives were taken simply due to the fact that they are African Americans. Emmet Till was visiting a small town in Mississippi the summer he was murdered. While shopping at a local grocery store, he was accused of flirting with a white woman. He was later kidnapped, beaten, and shot to death. Emmett’s body was then thrown into a river. Mr. Till was only a young teen at the time of his murder. Once his mother learned about his death, she requested that his casket was open at the funeral. Emmett’s face was unrecognizable and hard to look at. She wanted the world to see what these heartless men did to her baby boy. Trayvon Martin was walking home from a convenient store when he was killed. His murdered felt that he was a threat and appeared to be suspicious. Trayvon’s murder George Zimmerman started to follow him home. Once Trayvon noticed he was being followed he began to run. George Zimmerman shot Trayvon and killed him.
