There have been many heroes throughout the time that humans have roamed this Earth. Even though these heroes have lived throughout many ages and time periods, there are still many similarities that apply to heroes today and heroes of past times. Beowulf was the greatest warrior of his time and known by everyone to be the greatest of all heroes. But the hero that I picked from modern time that I think can most closely be compared to Beowulf, is Pat Tillman. I will begin by saying that I don’t think most of you have heard of Pat Tillman but he did something that I believe that most American citizen would not do if they lived in his position. He was a professional football player in the NFL. He played safety for the Arizona Cardinals. He left his job and position as an NFL player making millions of dollars to enroll in the Army Rangers in 2002. He served many duties in Iraq and Afghanistan. He was sadly killed during battle in 2004. One of the things that brings these two heroes together, but also sets them apart from others is their bravery. Pat Tillman was making millions of dollars a year playing a sport I imagine he loved very much. After the tragic incident that happened on September 11th, he chose to give up all the money, fame, and the life he lived as a professional football player to go enlist in the Army and fight for his country. Beowulf risked not only his life, but the life of all of his closest men to go to a place they have never been and fight a monster that has not yet been beaten by anyone else in the village. This could have proven dangerous and could have cost many men their lives. This act was all in the name of keeping others safe and
