The stories of Frankenstein and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
The stories of Frankenstein and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde are similar in some ways and different in others. Science and the role that it plays in both stories seems to be the catalyst of the messages and the integrity of both men. The goal of this paper is to compare and contrast the differences and similarities in the messages that Frankenstein and Dr. Jekyll about science and the level of integrity involved.
Frankenstein and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde both are stories about scientists who challenge the issue of life and use unconventional ways to understand it. They both come from good families and they are both considered noble citizens in society. They also felt as if they were not a part of society, so they alienated themselves from society. These scientists believe that they can create another being that is loyal to them as though they are God. In doing this, they use science to help them in their journey to create a part of themselves that is hidden from the world. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde have many similarities, but there are also some differences. In Frankenstein, Victor Frankenstein creation was made from the body parts of the deceased. Victor wanted to bring the dead back to life. Who shall conceive the horrors of my secret toil as I dabbled among the unhallowed damps of the grave or tortured the living animal to animate the lifeless clay (Shelly 33)? The monster in Frankenstein wanted to be accepted by society. This monster wanted his creator, Victor Frankenstein, to accept him and teach him the ways of life.
