The “Gift and the Giver” and “A Rich Man’s Son” are both about being grateful for what you get.
The poor farmer and the rich man’s son both got gifts. The poor farmer received a beautiful apple and he was grateful for the gift that god gave him.
After he got his gift, he showed it to the people in the village and then showed it to the king and he wanted the king to have it without getting anything back but the king noticed how generous the farmer was and gave him his best horse to the poor farmer. In the text it states, “ Where is the farmer?” he (the king) asked. “He has shown me more love with this gift than anyone in my kingdom. Ride after him. Take my best horse and give it to him (the farmer). Tell him the horse is from a grateful king
