As time went on the the world changed but, the story stayed the same. You ask why it was important and why you have never physically seen the story. They answer because it was always told and never written. It was a story of how to be one with your people and show them a hero can be anyone with great intentions. The Anglo-Saxon period was around 450 C.E to 1066 C.E, located in the United Kingdom. The Anglo-Saxon culture was a germanic warrior society based off of bravery, honor, and glory in battle. They were a patriarchal community who practiced kinship, which is, the relationship with an individual or other members in a tribe. Both of Grendel attacks and how he died are told the same. The dragon attack the town and scares the people. Also how Beowulf fought the dragon and made Wiglaf the next heir. On the contrary, in the movie Beowulf lied to Hrothgar about killing Grendel’s Mother, which made him jump off the tower. He also had a wife and a mistress in the movie whereas, the poem doesn’t mention him being married or having any interactions with women. The wasn’t stolen either.

Each gender had different roles in either the poem or the movie. Grendel mother had different qualities in the poem or the poem. The story plot also changes within the movie.
