In Hamlet by William Shakespeare and Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, both authors reveal their critical thoughts toward humanities and nature through the different characters and plots in the books. The main characters - Hamlet the prince and Victor Frankenstein - share a variety of similarities which includes their personalities, views toward lives, destinies, and relationships. Responsibilities for these two main characters play an important role in both stories by becoming the key motivation for their actions and causing them to bring tragedy to not only themselves but others. While Frankenstein was devastated due to the murders of his family members and friend, he became rather desperate and irrational. He totally acknowledged the fact that the monster would destroy everyone that is close him. “I have a secret, Elizabeth, a dreadful one; when revealed to you, it will chill you frame with horror, and then, far from being surprised at my misery.”(140) He was so eager to take revenge. He had a choice, yet he chose to marry Elizabeth by putting her in danger. She then get murdered by the monster as expected. It is important for him to take revenge from the monster, but the whole point of it is to protect the ones who Frankenstein. He merely attempted satisfy his own self-interest, regardless of Elizabeth death. Frankenstein’s action was merely stupid and
