A close analysis of Louis Zamperini, the protagonist of Unbroken, and Rachel Platten, singer of Fight Song, is that they both maintain hope and never give up even when everyone else would. Giving up leads to a fate worse than death. In Unbroken, Louie Zamperini is in a plane crash, POW camps, and beaten every day for years and never once gave up. The same could go for Rachel in Fight Song where the world is against her, but stays strong. We will be comparing Lauren Hillenbrand's Unbroken Rachel Platten's Fight Song themes and how they are alike. They are also different in the reasons that lead to their situation. We see him lose his friends, lay on a raft, near death, for 47 days, be put in a POW camp where they fed him slop and beat them regularly, almost lose his wife, and the most iconic one of all, be forced to hold a heavy wood beam above his head until he collapses. He never seems to give up though, even when put through all of that pain. Hope is never lost in himself, he always thinks that they U.S will come save him from his torment, and eventually they do, but there is more to the story than that. After the war he falls into depression and contracts a drinking problem that almost causes him to lose his wife and baby.
