In J.R.R Tolkien’s “The Lord of The Rings” we are introduced to many different races and species then our own. These men, elves, dwarves, goblins, etc. Each have their own dialects that were all created to fit into the universe Tolkien has created. Much time and effort was put into the novels as it took him years to release a finished copy of the books. The books themselves are essentially one book with three parts. The Fellowship of The Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of The King. These books can be found in every bookstore around the world as they are considered to be a literary masterpiece.

Creating a language is harder than it sounds, creating adjectives, verbs, nouns, pronouns and their meaning, how they are spelt, It is a very tedious process and great thought has to be put into it. Tolkien spent 12 years writing The Lord of The Rings and took great

Quenya and Sindarin, both are elvish languages although Quenya is the older of the two and is considered to be Elvish Latin which is only used in their spells and poems.while Sindarin is their everyday language. Fred Hoyt, a linguistics researcher at the University of Texas said “They are invented languages but they are completely logical and linguistically sound.” Hoyt also teaches an Elvish course at the university. Other languages such as Black Speech is only used in certain areas of the book which is why many of the languages are not fully developed, it would have taken a lifetime to complete all the languages and have them in the books. An Example of black speech is: “Ash nazg durbatulûk, ash nazg gimbatul, ash nazg thrakatulûk agh burzum-ishi krimpatul” which when translated into english reads “One ring to rule them all, one ring to find them, one ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.” This is the inscription which the dark lord Sauron put in The One
