Love: Multifarious and Powerful
Mahatma Gandhi, a civil rights leader, once said, “Love is the strongest force the world possesses and yet it is the humblest imaginable.” Love is a powerful emotion that transcends physical and political, and is present in many forms, such as friendship and romantic love.
Love manifests itself in many forms, such as philia (deep friendship), eros (sexual passion), and pragma (longstanding love). (Krznaric) Philia, essentially friendship, is present in John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men. George and Lennie explain their situation to each other:

Love also transcends physical properties; Brand even hypothesizes that love is evidence of multiple dimensions, as it exists even when the characters travel through time and through multiple dimensions. In The Princess Bride, Westley and Buttercup’s pervasive love allows them to transcend political and physical boundaries, and even cheat death. As Westley is captured by the previous pirate Roberts, he explains of Buttercup, allowing him to survive, cheating death once. He also cheats death when Inigo’s determination to find and kill his father’s murderer (familial love) prevails and causes him to find someone who revives Westley. The reviver, Miracle Max, notes that Westley is almost dead, but is sustained by true love. Westley and Buttercup eventually get together, transcending political boundaries, in which Buttercup is forced to marry Humperdinck. The two lovers also transcend physical boundaries as they someone how come together after being extremely far apart for a long period of time. Inigo’s determination to kill his father’s assassin (the six-fingered man) also allows him to cheat death. Rugen, the person Inigo seeks, cowardly fights Inigo and causes many mortal injuries, including a knife throw at Inigo’s chest. Although this would normally kill him, his determination overcomes his physical fears, and he kills Rugen. In 1984, Julia and Winston Smith find a way to get together and have a sexual affair in spite of political disadvantages: the government punishes it by death. This shows that even the most debased form of love, lust, finds a way to occur, in spite of external circumstances. Being an influential factor, love can also cause major events to happen. For example, the Trojan War was started because Helen was abducted by the Trojan prince
