Every second that passes when my parents are together kills me inside because I know the truth, and the ill truth is that the passion and love they once shared with each other has ran dry. It is sad to say but I can relate to Huston’s and Wright’s stories because of the hostile enviornment I grew up around. My mother is a very intelligent woman. In the Air Force she attended college and traveled to places like; Japan, Hawaii, and even Korea. Now, she is dedicated mom who is trying to finish her job of raising my little sister. On the other hand, my dad has not adventured pass the Georgia state line, however he is a hard workingman who takes care of his family at any cost. I can picture them planning a baby and. Delia is a victim of her husband mental and physical abuse. “You sho is one aggravatin’ nigger woman!” said by Sykes. Sykes constantly reminds Delia that she is not worth anything to him. Skyes also shows his love by cheating on Delia with a woman named Brutha. Married couple have a lot issues to tackled everyday; who will take the kids to school to what to cook for dinner but cheating crosses the line. Delia has her own laundry business, but instead of Sykes assisting her with her business he rather continues to degrade and fight with her. “Ah done tole you time and again to keep them white folks’ clothes outa dis house” (p.1022). The reader must have to wonder, how long will Delia deal with Sykes abusive ways? In one part of the story, Delia fight back. She picks up an iron skillet and threaten to hit Sykes. This scean is a turning point because you see Delia stand up to Sykes for the first time. something she refuses to let Sykes take over her home. Delia is terrified of snakes, so Sykes decides he will play a nasty trick on Delia to get her out of her own home. The trick ends with Sykes dying. What happened to Skyes is called
