Macrosociological and Microsociological theories both examine how human behavior affects society and its influence on crime. When discussing both of these theories, it is important to examine both the differences and similarities between them to achieve a full understanding. Macrosociological theory analyzes how population and social structure create an environment that is conducive to crime (Bohm & Vogel, 2011). This theory is focused on the social system as a whole and often is focused on entire populations as well. This theory allows for broader conclusions, as it is able to focus on individuals as well as large scale interactions. Since individual interactions are part of a population’s social structure, this theory often examines how these interactions influence crime within a broader conditions (The Sociological Approach, n.d.). Macrosociology examines how crime and crime rates vary amongst impoverished communities, geographical locations, and population density (Bohm & Vogel, 2011). This method allows for researchers to examine how crime, on a large scale, is introduced to a society and by examining where it originates, they are able to develop and implement methods for deterring and preventing crime. Further, their conclusions will aid them in strategic prediction and …show more content…
Microsociological theory focuses on smaller scale human interactions, whereas Macrosociological theory analyzes a much wider social system (The Sociological Approach, n.d.). One major problem with this is they often fail to examine to the opposite of what they are focused on. Microsociological theory is often blinded to a larger scale interpretation of human interaction and its effects on crime and Macrosociological theory fails to see a smaller picture. Macrosociological theory can be applied to smaller, individual interactions (The Sociological Approach,
