Malcolm X is known as one of the most influential and controversial proponents of African American rights. Malcolm had an unfortunate upbringing and unfortunate circumstances with his parents as the father was killed by a car and the mother was forced into a mental asylum. After Having served 6 years in prison, he began his career as a religious and racial spokesperson. He was considered controversial for saying things such as "there is no such thing as a non-violent revolution". His controversial and charismatic style appealed to much of the black youth.
