Comparing Mary Call's Goldilocks And The Three Bears

Where The Lilies Bloom is a book about a girl with the name of Mary Call. Mary Call lives in on the Appalachian Mountains, in the middle of nowhere. She has to be head of her household at the age fourteen, due to the fact that both of her parents have passed away. I have found that this novel and the short story, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, share many similarities. They are stories written for very different age groups, one being for younger children, and the other being for teenagers, yet they share many things in common. “I don’t know when it happened or at what hour. I only knew that when I went to him first thing the next morning he had gone.” 70 In this part of the book, Roy Luther, Mary Call’s father, passes away. This is like the scene in Goldilocks and the Three Bears where Goldilocks is found in the bear’s bed. The bears rush Goldilocks off and then she runs away. In Where The Lilies Bloom, when Roy Luther passes away, leads to the children living on their own, which eventually ends the book. …show more content…
This is also seen in Where The Lilies Bloom when Mrs. Connell enters the Luther’s home. “Forgotten was the threatened visit from Mr. and Mrs. Connell. They came just as the last supper dish was being wiped.” 75. In this part of the book the Luthers are eating supper, and all of a sudden the Connells show up. They are alike in the way that neither the Luthers nor bears want any visitors, but both have
