Comparing Paine And Thomas Whitman

Throughout history there have been many authors that have written countless books and poems about all sorts of topics. Each one of them have their own different ways that they write their stories or poems. But there are some ways that some authors are similar. The tone that these authors use, the similarities and differences of how they write and the author's attitude toward wars are evident in the pieces “Common Sense”, “The Rainy River” and “The Walt Whitman poems”.
In Thomas Paine's writing the Common Sense, Thomas uses a serious tone. He uses the words common sense to persuade the reader into thinking that what he is stating is common knowledge and should not fight about whether his opinion is write or wrong. Thomas Paine uses a strong word choice. For example, “so any prepossession in favour of a rotten constitution of government will disable us from discerning a good one” (Paine 6). Thomas Paine used rotten in the middle of the sentence to give it a serious tone. By using serious tone he gives the reader an impression that he is intelligent and

In all of the examples the author's attitude toward wars is that they do not like it. All of the authors for one use serious tones in all of the examples of writing. The authors used serious tone to persuade the reader into believing what the authors are saying and to support the authors opinion. In Common Sense the author said that his captain had fallen cold and dead which gives you a good example that there is a lot of death and hard time during the war. And that people fight over stupid reasons and get involved even though it was not their problem to begin with. Which is one reason why some countries are in debt because of the leader sending out his men to fight and spending so much money and in the end no one has won, many people have lost their loved ones and all those millions of dollars
