The idea of being similar to someone isn’t complex; attributes, physical features and other simple factors can help compare two people. The difficult thing about comparing two people is in the actions they take, and how they relate to each other. Two people can both be considered smart, but are they truly alike if one of them uses their ability to save and one uses their ability to hurt. Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card has two characters, Ender and Peter Wiggin, that have a lot in common. Both take on the characteristics of the other at many points, and both are different types of heroes. Peter is ostracized by the elders of his society, and feels useless to needs of the world. In order for the world to be saved, and for the International Fleet (IF) to defeat the buggers, children are subject to monitoring. This monitoring is helping the world find it’s next savior, and only certain children are selected to be taken to Battle School and go on the path of becoming a commander. Peter Wiggin was one of the IF’s smartest kids being monitored, but due to his violent behavior, he was taken out of the program. He is later rejected by society when he begins writing his political views under the name Locke, while his sister is writing under the name Demosthenes. As they began to gain followers, Demosthenes opinion and views became the popular views in society. Peter disliked all of the attention given to Demosthenes, “It happened when Demosthenes was invited to take part in the President’s Council on Education for the Future… Valentine thought Peter would take it as a triumph, but he did not. ‘Turn it down,’ he said” (Card 230). Since the idea of writing as Demosthenes and Locke was Peter’s, he felt that society was picking the wrong one to follow. Although he wanted to write his views to help the world avoid fighting, it was clear that he also wanted the attention of the world that Valentine was getting. Peter wasn’t accepted by the world, as he thought he should
