3.) The original affluent society is a theory from the American anthropologist Marshall Sahlins to describe the prehistoric hunters and gatherers. In our current society it is often that we want a lot and we have limited resources that will give us what we want. This is unlike the prehistoric hunter and gathers, their needs were limited and they desired little. Since they desired little they were able to easily meet their needs. These are two different ideas of affluence and they cannot be compared because they’re from different times and different thoughts. The hunters and gathers just wanted their basic needs and were able to get them because it’s all they did, and because of the little amount that they wanted it was easier to succeed at. They had the amazing knowledge of knowing the land that let them to be able to succeed in their desires. They were a hard working group of people and this allowed for their goals to come true. I would agree that this is accurate in the sense that they were able to obtain what they wanted and worked hard enough to not have to deal with starvation. If we compared their way of living by our way of living currently then they would not be considered affluent but that is an unfair comparison. We cannot take current economic theory and place it on people living hundreds of years ago. In the basic sense then yes, they were affluent.
