Macbeth is a play, written in the form of a tragedy, conceived and authored by William Shakespeare. Set in 16th century Scotland, it follows the lead character, Macbeth, in his quest to become King. Macbeth, and Lady Macbeth, commit the murder of King Duncan in his sleep. Following their heinous deed a drunken porter is found outside the castle. He talks back to Macduff, and makes a fool of himself. In Act II Scenes II & III tragedy strikes the play, and is contrasted with comic relief. These scenes bring the audience to a low point, and then raises them back up in both Shakespeare’s play, and the 1979 film adaptation by the Royal Shakespeare Company. In Act II Scene II Macbeth is on edge, he jumps upon Lady Macbeth’s entrance, exclaiming,
