“ We are buried up to our necks in a history of violence and brutality against people of color. I refuse to be silent anymore” (Riley). Many similarities exist between today’s “Black Lives Matter” movement and the persecution of individuals in The Crucible by Arthur Miller, including negative labeling, people accusing blacks of being criminals, and a stand against their persecution. Whites accuse dark skinned people of being horrible because of the color of their skin. The NAACP leader at the college said, “These allegations of physical assault are lies to make white students look like the perpetrators.”(Abera) The whites accuse blacks of lying about the physical assault because, in their opinion, they are bad people. “ She is blackening my name in the village! She is a cold shivering woman, and you bend to her! Let her turn you like a..” (Miller 1264 ). In that quote Abigail is accusing Elizabeth of lying, it connects to the black lives matter because She is lying about Elizabeth just like the whites are lying about the blacks. …show more content…
Many of the threats are online but most of them are verbal. In Minneapolis, five demonstrators were shot. Police arrested three suspects, all of them were white after a confrontation between protesters and the men (Sidner). The black lives matter movement is making a concerted effort not to encourage violence. The protesters didn’t like the fact blacks were having a movement. They decided to cause violence, but blacks tried avoiding it. “Mary please don’t hurt me”(Miller 1336). When Abigail says that, she is indicating that Mary is trying to hurt her and cause violence.
