This psalm is very encouraging for me personally. It teaches us to rely on god fully , putting all our faith unto him and him alone. ”When reading Psalms and Prophets can melt our hearts as they stir us towards faith and obedience”. The spirit of fear and anxiousness for the future has no hold over our lives because Jesus died on the cross for us to be set free of anything not of him. The Psalms were written by David and some by Solomon. A Psalm is a Poem, a specific way of conveying gods word in a poetic form .If a Psalm is a poem, it is also a song. The Book of Psalms, while it is many things, is a hymnal. The various titles of the Book of Psalms are one indication of the role of the book as a hymnal. this means for us to be like a sheep, being led to the holy spirit trusting fully in him as he has our best interests in mind. Although it may not be how we intend things to work out god has a plan and a future for our livesThe statement “I shall not want” in itself has a very powerful message. The word want in Hebrew means ‘Chacer’ ; meaning to lack, by implication, to fail, be-rave, decrease. God wants us to reply on him solely wanting nothing. Many of Davids Psalms are complaints but psalm 23 is full of comforts, and the expression of delight in gods great goodness and dependancy upon him. The time was when David himself was a shepherd , and so he knew by experience the tender affections of a good shepherd toward his flock. This to THEM showed how the Lord cares for Them and affection he has for them, and how much he loves his flock. This Psalm shows them how we must fully trust and rely on god. Applying this to now US means we must make ourselves like sheep are. Inoffensive, meek and quiet, silent before the shearers nay. This means we need to make ourselves with the softness in our hearts of a sheep. Applying this to our lives being constantly soft hearted and with ears ready to be corrected, taught by others and our shepherd. This to ME means the same as the meaning to us as a church with the concept of being soft hearted. I personally make it a constant habit to speak this Psalm over my own life. The freedom of living a life without fear and want for anything but to rely on the Lord for my every need. Even things that i may not need but still want i give it to god. For if i fully trust in him i will submit these wants to him, because he will not let you go without. Some things may not be in our timing but in gods timing which is perfect because that is his nature, everything
