People don't know what it's like to have everything one day and nothing the next. In both fables, “The Goose that Laid the Golden Egg” by Nicky Grischotti, and “The dog and his reflection” by Tony Payne the theme, you don't know what you have until it's gone is shown. Both fables conclude how greed can take over you instead of appreciating what little and big things you have in life. In the fable, “The Goose that Laid the Golden Egg,” the author shows us that you don't know what you have until it's gone. The main character, Attacus, was a greedy and lazy man that always wanted more. He had Inherited a large, prosperous farm from his father. But because he was lazy and didn't do any work, Attacus had to sell all of his belongings, and the only thing he was left with was a single goose. …show more content…
Now that Attacus has a lot of supplies, he still keeps asking for more. He said, ‘Oh how I wish I had money to buy a horse-drawn carriage, That's what I need to be happy. When Attacus says the word need it's like he’s saying to himself that he’s greedy. People don't need more things, they want more things. So when Attacus said that's what I need to be happy that shows greed. Everyday since then, Attacus Greeb kept asking for more and the goose kept laying more eggs. Said in the Fable, ‘Soon the farmer became a very rich man indeed - but as he grew rich, he grew greedy - and still he wanted more.’ The next morning Attacus told the cook to kill the goose so he could have all the golden eggs at once, but soon when they did it there was nothing inside the poor goose, and Attacus ended up in his tumbled down pigsty with no golden eggs. Greed is shown in these examples, because Attacus wanted more and more so he kept demanding it and because he did that, he lost everything. One day he had everything and the next day he had
