The levels of leadership can be found in anyone, anywhere, and in anything. A person’s origin does not determine if they are a good leader, but rather their character and demeanor. This is proven true when evaluates the characters in two surprising similar films, The Lion King and the Matrix. These two movies have shining examples of people who fit in all five of John Maxell’s Five Levels of Leadership. They both have mentors who are successful at their job and do the right thing. Not to mention, both pictures provide examples of good teamwork and different means for communication. Both The Loin King and The Matrix had examples of characters who fit in all Five Levels of Leadership. In The Lion King, that person was Mufasa. Mufasa was the king of the pride-lands (Position), the animals in the kingdom wanted peace and that is just what he offered (Permission). Mufasa respected the Circle of Life and strived to tech his son those principles (Production & People Development). In the end, everyone followed Mufasa because of his admiration for balance, equality, and the many other things that he has done for the kingdom (Pinnacle). Scar on the other hand, was a terrible leader. His pride, selfish ways, and negligence nearly destroyed the pride-lands. As for The Matrix, their brilliant leader was Morpheus. The bad leader will product poor teamwork, while a good leader will do just the opposite. In The Lion King, good teamwork was shown when Simba and the gang went to take back the pride-lands. Simba communicated with his team, explained the plain clearly, and put others into consideration. Although Scar and the hyenas where able to take over the pride-lands, they lost hold of the organization and everything fell apart. In The Matrix, Morpheus and the others all worked together to get out of the house after they discovered it was a trap. Everyone fulfilled their role and ended with little fatalities.
