In Richard Wright’s poem “Between the World and Me”, the poet utilizes “stumbled” to symbolize, for a moment in his life, things were going good, until the enemy forcefully attacked him. Situations will soon change his life. The poet titles this poem “Between the World and Me” because disastrous situations around the world has trapped him, causing negative people and situations to affect him. Wright begins the first half and last sentence of the poem, describing “a stony skill staring in yellow surprise at the sun.” Firstly, Write takes into account that deadly things are surrounding him. Secondly, hopelessness occurs, and thirdly, the tone remains demonic.
In the first two stanzas, the poet uses images of deadly things to symbolize death.
