Three emancipation stories, “Behind The Scenes:Elizabeth Keckley”, “Frederick Douglass”, and “The Crafts” are both similar and different. The three stories both include slavery, freedom, escaping, and emancipation.
Elizabeth’s experience is different from Frederick Douglass’s and The Crafts because, in “Behind The Scenes: Elizabeth Keckley,” Lizzie met Mr. Keckley in Virginia and became more than friends. Mr Keckley wanted to propose to Lizzie, but she refused. One day Lizzie learns that she has to pay $1,200, for herself and her son, George. Mr. Garland offers to let Lizzie go. On page 18, it says, “No master, I do not wish to be free in such manner. If such had been my wish, I should never have troubled you about obtaining your consent to
