Comparing Ulysses And The Hero's Journey

A hero is based on what one defines and sees as hero material. In this case, two heroes will be analyzed by their characteristics, will be resembled to a story from the author, and will be related to a stage in the Hero’s Journey. Now, the Hero’s Journey is the pattern of a story, describing the common adventure for the hero. The two heroes will be the Greek hero named Ulysses and then others from internet stories. A trait that both heroes have shown is bravery. For Ulysses, he has shown much bravery for his adventure but what shows it is in chapter four, when he gets the Cyclops so drunk, that he falls asleep then blinds the Cyclops with the help of his men. “Then Ulysses rolled the boulder next to the giant’s head and climbed on it so he was looking down into the eye. A kindergarten teacher named Ina Koenig has shown this act of bravery when saving a three year old child from a mine. “She neither knew how deep the hole or if she could rescue him. But she jumped in after him in a split second after he vanished into the earth” (Hall). Ina had no idea on how deep the mine was or if she could save him but overcame that fear to rescue that young boy. A story to relate to bravery is that my dad had taken my mother and older brother on a cruise when my older brother at the time was two. My dad having hardly any knowledge of kids at that age had gotten scared when my older brother nearly drowned in the pool on the ship.
