Picture this, Your home is falling apart, gunshots and bullets fly through the air like shooting stars, the sound of airplanes and screams is all you hear and you’re running for your life, fleeing with your family hoping to find a safe place in this war-zone. This is the reality of 41% of refugee children. Zlata and Ha are two characters whose lives were changed because of war. Zlata was a happy girl who thought she figured everything out. She lived in Sarajevo, Bosnia but got caught in the middle of the war. Ha was a young sassy girl who was getting over one of the most memorable wars in history; The Vietnam War. Ha was struggling with her family but couldn’t escape the grasp of war. Like refugee children, Zlata and Ha both lose their countries and childhoods due to the war;but, They each take away different life lessons and learn to interpret the world in …show more content…
Zlata was faced with the reality that all of these things other children had across the world are so far away from her grasp that she will not reach in her childhood because of war. It shows her childhood is nonexistent. Ha grew up in one of the words most memorable wars and definitely lost her childhood early on. Like most refugee children, they don’t get to attend school and the fact that school is one of the most important parts of a kids life, its sad to think some people don’t have that. On page 38 the text says “School is now closed; everyone must go home a month too soon. “ This quote expresses the frustration and sorrow Ha must feel when she finds out that the last sliver of her childhood has been taken away. School was something Ha looked forward to, and although she knew school was closing she was looking forward to enjoying her last few days in school but now everything is gone.
