Community College vs. University One of the most important decisions that a person can make is choosing a college that fits their personality. Many people decide that they want to go to a big university, but once they get there, it is not at all what they wanted or expected. After the negative experience, some decide to transfer, or to not attend college at all. In order to choose a college that fits someone’s personality, they need to look at all that the institution has to offer. A few things that can be looked at are the size of the school, the social life on the campus, and making sure that they have the major that the person is looking for. To begin, the size of a college that a student is looking at is a huge factor in the decision of whether or not they go there. Size obviously depends on the person and how they work at their personal best. Some people would do great in either, but the majority of people either want to choose one or the other. In community college, the classes are generally much smaller than what someone would find at a 4-year institution. Most community colleges do not have classes that exceed thirty students (By). Classes with 100 or more people may be good for people who are afraid of being the center of attention. With that many students, the odds of a professor calling on someone specifically are slim to none. Attendance policies are also normally less strict at a university than they are at a community college because most professors are not going to spend the time to take roll in a class with that many people in it. Although the one on one in class is not always available at a university, office hours are a very useful tool in getting help outside of the lecture.
