Waterborne and Solvent paint the real story The day has finally come where you have saved your money: from doing chores, birthday money, and working odd jobs to purchase your first car. You have thought of that car for a long time, and as you arrive at the dealership you see the vast selection of vehicles everywhere. You commence browsing through their selection, gazing through the windows observing all the options and amenities. You are amazed by all the vibrant red, green and bright yellow vehicles. In the distance shimmering in the sun “the one” with its twinkling blue paint. Is the paint a waterborne paint that is environmentally friendly or is it a solvent-based paint?
After purchasing your new car, you spend endless hours washing and waxing, to retain the vibrant color looking new. You go out of your way to park it away from everyone to keep it safe. The waterborne paint is applied through a stainless steel high volume, low pressure or HVLP paint gun so that the water does not cause rust to accumulate on the inside of the gun from the water in the paint. The cleaning of this gun is extremely simple, this process requires using soap and water, which is not hazardous to the environment. On the other hand, the solvent-based paint is sent out through a pressurized pot or HVLP gun. To clean this type of gun, it would be placed in a gun cleaning cabinet and have lacquered thinner run through it by forced air.
