Comparison: Football Vs. Basketball

Many people play various sports around the world. Some are very similar and others are completely different. The two sports that are most alike, and different at the same time, are football and basketball. While the two sports might be played very differently, they have many small things in common. However, they also have many major differences. First off, basketball is played on a court indoors. A basketball court is made of hard wood with a waxy like coating for grip. The games are usually played in an arena with spectators courtside, unlike football where spectators can be on the field but not directly on it. For instance, basketball players have to dribble the ball down the court. As opposed to football, the players carry the ball down the field. If a basketball player carried the ball down the court, they would get called for traveling, and the ball would go to the other team. Football has set plays and downs. In basketball the game only stops for a timeout, a foul, or if the ball goes out of bounds. Both football and basketball are considered contact sports; however, football takes contact way more seriously. Football is a sport based on contact and players play with a hit, or be hit mentality. While in basketball players can make contact, but rules are strictly enforced to make sure it does not get to out of hand. Basketball players generally try to avoid any heavy contact due to the consequences that could follow.
While the differences between football and basketball are great, they share one goal. Both Football and Basketball players strive to carry their team to victory and entertain every spectator in the process. It's amazing how two things so different can have so much in common.
