Comparison Of Caravaggio And Gentileschi

When first looking at the paintings of Judith by both Caravaggio and Gentileschi I got the impression that Judith was a smart, strong, determined woman. However, in Caravaggio’s painting I noticed that Judith wears an expression on her face of perhaps worry, or maybe hesitation. Nevertheless, she continues with what she believes she needs to do. In Gentileschi’s painting Judith has a stern face, almost as if she is unconcerned with taking Holoferne’s life. While Judith’s facial expressions might differ slightly in each painting, her determination in both are clearly depicted.
