When it comes to democracy, there are three different approaches. A direct democracy allows for the people to vote on issues directly, whereas a representative democracy allows voters to elect officials to govern and pass laws. In a constitutional democracy, the government puts limits on those in power and the people’s voices are heard fairly through frequent election. In America, we use all three forms throughout both state and federal powers (Magleby, Light, Nemacheck, 2015).
