What is a captain of industry? John Rockefeller and Steve Jobs were both captains of industry. They both stated from the bottom and went up. What is a robber baron? A robber baron is a person who became rich by not caring for the other people. Captains of Industry are business people that positively influence the country using their own wealth. These captains helped increase productivity as well as expand the market. John Rockefeller is the founder of standard oil company. John Rockefeller invested in Cleveland oil refinery in 1865 when he borrowed money to buy some of his partners. At the time the refinery was the largest in Cleveland. The refinery was producing kerosene. Later on John Rockefeller and his brother William formed the Sanders Oil Company in the year 1870. John Rockefeller became president of the largest shareholder. By 1882 John Rockefeller gained a monopoly by buying all the rival refineries. Congress passed the Sherman Antitrust Act in 1890 which banded trust and combinations that that restrained trade. The Standard Oil Company was broken up into 30 individual companies. Steve Jobs is the Co-founder Apple Inc. Steve and Wozniak started working to build the first Apple computer in the year 1976. Jobs started in his partents garage and sold calculators to make money for what he wanted to build. He gave people the computers. The computes increased forms of communications as well as help people able to find information easier. Jobs has helped the society improve itself. Jobs got kicked out of Apple Inc. because he and the directors would not come in agreement. Jobs improved televisions and made the family movie of Toy Story.
