Born in England in 1737, Thomas pain was raised by parents who were uneducated farmers. When he was young he was educated as an apprentice in his father’s corset business, but when he got older he served as a merchant seaman before starting his own corset business ("Thomas Paine Biography for Kids «," n.d.).
