In the short story “The Ravine” Graham Salisbury uses character traits to describe Vinny and Joe-Boy, who are best friends. He uses similarities and differences to create Vinny’s and Joe-Boy’s characteristics.

So now I’m going to be contrasting by telling the differences in their character traits. Vinny is scared because where they are going is to a place where a boy died 2 weeks and 1 day ago, but Joe-Boy doesn’t seem to be scared, he is taunting Vinny about the dead boy by telling him,”You’re probably walking in his footsteps” on their way to the ravine. Joe-Boy is very brave but Vinny, he’s practically a coward, because in the story it says that he moved out of the way of footprints on the trail while Joe-Boy and he are on their way
