Being a Competitive Cheer has had a very positive impact on my ability to lead and support my cheer mates. As a cheerleader since the age of 6 the sport of cheer has been my primary focus and a major positive influence in my everyday life. During the many hours spent in the gym working on routines, stunts and tumbling, I developed characteristics that are not only important as a Competitive Cheerleader, but also in life. An important trait of any cheerleader is to be a person of good character. I know from experience that as cheerleaders our emotions will take over whether it from preparing for a competition or practicing. Competitive Cheerleading has taught me to be energetic, confident, and how to stay focused. Also, it has taught me to always be respectful to my coaches and my team members. When questioned,” How is being a cheerleader more than just a sport?” My reply is cheerleading is more than that. It has taught me a lot of life lessons which I would not have learned if I had played another sport. Cheering has help me to conquer my fears. Such as, my mom selling things and working part-time jobs in order for me to cheer. From the cost of my uniform, to the competition fees and travel, she works really hard to make sure that it was all paid for. She is dedicated to making sure I get to every practice, and always encouraging me to work hard for myself and my team. I am forever grateful to have my mom for being my number one fan and never missing any of my competitions.
In conclusion, as a competitive cheerleader I now take pride in whatever I do. In order for my team to perform like we are expected. The team must work together like a baseball and a glove. Having the experience of competing against some of the best teams and winning has taught me that teamwork will get the job
