In Lincolns Speech at Peoria, Illinois Lincoln makes it very clear that he is against the spread of Slavery into Nebraska. Lincoln believed that slavery contradicted the Declaration of Independence when it says that all men are created equal. Lincoln believed that slavery was making America into something it wasn’t and setting a bad example for the rest of the world. Although Lincoln did not know how to change the rules of slavery in the States he knew it was a problem and would have no problem freeing all the slaves if he could and had means to do something with the slaves once they where free.
